Position Summary
As the Process Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining coating processes that ensure consistent, high-quality results across production lines. You will work closely with operations and the Plant Manager to improve throughput, quality, and efficiency. This is a full-time on-site role requiring hands-on involvement in process design and troubleshooting and is ideal for a motivated engineer who thrives in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization
- Lead the formulation and refinement of coating processes (liquid, UV, epoxy, Cerakote, etc.) to achieve targeted performance, durability, and appearance.
- Establish and document robust, repeatable manufacturing procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for coating application, curing, and inspection.
Equipment & Production Support
- Serve as the technical authority for coating equipment — spray booths, conveyor lines, ovens, and measurement tools — ensuring optimal operation and maintenance.
- Collaborate with operations to implement process controls that increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve first-pass yield.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze process performance data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean/Six Sigma principles) to streamline workflows and reduce variability.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain detailed process documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
- Support compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements associated with coating chemistry and equipment operation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Plant Manager, production teams, and quality assurance to integrate engineering solutions into daily operations.
- Provide on-site technical training to operators and team members on new processes and equipment.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in coatings, surface engineering, or related manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of coating technologies (e.g., spray application, curing, adhesion, surface preparation).
- Experience with process optimization, root cause analysis, and quality improvement tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as the sole engineer and collaborate across teams.
- Familiarity with industrial spray coating systems, automated coating lines, and related hardware.
Preferred:
- Experience with coating performance testing and analytical methods.
- Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma certification.
- Opportunity to directly influence operational success and product excellence.
